Ms Almaz Choloian date of birth 18.09.1972, incomplete law degree, languages: Kurdish, Armenian, Azeri and Russian; during the 90's fled to Russia because of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.
1998: Started her human rights activities protecting 20 families of Yazidis, the people of the Republic of Armenia, from deportation. Having won the court she helped all families to be legitimized in Russia, Nizhny Novgorod Region.
1998–1999: Elected as a head of the Migrants Assistance Center by Nizhniy Novgorod Regional Public Organization Yazidi and Kurdish National Community. She provided legal and social support to more than 400 families of Yazidis in their integration and legalization in Nizhny Novgorod Region. She made active political efforts, managed the Soros Foundation project Social and legal assistance to Yazidis and Kurds and the European Union projects Legal assistance to internally displaced persons and refugees. She provided continuous consulting support, education in the law and legal protection of migrants among ethnic minorities having come to Nizhny Novgorod Region.
1998–2000 Acted as a volunteer in Nizhny Novgorod human rights organization, provided legal assistance and support to more than 500 migrants and their families.
2000-2007:Held 5 meetings of the Council of the Nizhny Novgorod regional public organization Yazidi and Kurdish National Community, where she was unanimously elected each time as a head of the Migrants Assistance Center. All these years she stayed as a permanent leader and an authorized delegate of the Community`s governing body. After the Migrants Assistance Center has been transformed to the Interregional Charity Organization Volga Migration Center, she became its Director and kept on acting as human rights defender and charity supervisor.
2013: Got a nominee for the National Award Civil Initiative in the nomination Our Common Home Russia with the project Assistance to Migrants in their Adaptation to the Local Community, in Nizhny Novgorod City, Russia.
2000-2014: Being the head of the NGO Migrant Assistance Centre led significant projects on migrants rights protection issues Protection of the Rights and Freedoms of Migrants for their Adaptation and Integration to the Local Community, organized numerous charity events, conferences, round tables.
September 19, 2014:. Initiated and led by Ms Almaz Choloian Volga migration center held a picket in support of elimination terrorism, religious extremism, and genocide against Christians, Yezidis and Kurds in Iraq and Syria.
2014: Almaz Choloian got a winner in the competition for the National Award Civil Initiative in the nomination Our Common Home Russia with the project Protection of the rights and freedoms of migrants in Russia in Nizhny Novgorod City, Russia.
April 25, 2015: Initiated and led by Ms Almaz Choloian Volga Migration Center held a picket demanding the settlement of migration legislation.
June 24 - July 1, 2015: Took part in the 12th Annual conference Rights, Democracy and Migration: Challenges and Opportunities in Switzerland, Geneva.
July 6-12, 2015: Took part in the 12th Meeting of International Association of Genocide Researchers entitled 1915 - 2015: Century of Genocide (comparative analysis of the genocides in the 20th century), Republic of Armenia, Yerevan.
November 24-25, 2015: Took part in the 8th Session of the UN Forum on Minority Issues, organized by the office of the UN high Commissioner for human rights, Switzerland, Geneva.
Ms Almaz Choloian is a member of the permanent working group on improving valid legislation for non-profit organizations at the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Region.
Ms Almaz Choloian is a member of the Permanent Working Group for Interethnic Relations under the Administration of Nizhny Novgorod City.
